19-08-2009 RAPIST JAILED
A Kumasi Circuit Court has jailed Eric Bawuah 30 years in prison after finding him guilty of rape. He was also jailed 25 years for robbery. The sentences are to run concurrently. The trial of Bawuah, an Accra- based gym instructor at a Circuit court presided over by Mr. Justice Adjei Frimpiong, has been going on for the past one month The convict, was arrested by the police on the 29th of last month at the Asafo Neoplan Station in Kumasi for dragging his victim at dawn to a nearby drinking bar around a car washing bay, tore her jeans trousers and forcibly had sex with her. He also robbed the victim of 30 Ghana Cedis. Bawuah who admitted the offence in his defense said, her victim who he claimed to be a prostitute, agreed to the request to have sex with him upon refusing to follow him to his house. The trial of Bawuah has attracted a lot of comment from human rights activists who think the convict used his masculine structure to rape her victim in public. They have therefore commended the court saying the sentence will serve as an enough deterrent to anybody with such intention to carry it out.
